A man stripped naked in the name of art at one of London's most famous landmarks this week, prompting much uproar from the police. The "living sculpture" (who gave his name only as Simon), was ordered to cover up after peeling off on Anthony Gormley's fourth plinth at Trafalgar Sqaure. He had adopted his position on the plinth at 1am, fully clothed and waving, but when left to his own devices, removed his clothing to a crowd of cheers, wolf whistles and laughter.
Named after the 2nd Earl of Leicester who purchased four acres of land in 1630, the area has been subject to numerous disputes over land ownership and control, all of which are now resolved. Leicester Square has the reputation of being THE place to be for entertainment at night, but also has a peaceful park area during the daytime. Here you will find a statue of William Shakespeare standing above a fountain which features a dolphin theme.
